“It's nice to get out and play somebody else,” ISU Head Coach
Allison Gibson said. “We have such a great alumni base that it can be real game for us which is nice.”
Several of the players on the alumni team were recent graduates including
Taylor Powell and
Megan Stainbrook. Former player and current head coach at Highland High School Korbie Vaughn played at ISU from 1998-01 and took part in Saturday's action just six weeks after the birth of her third child.
“It's really fun to come back and play and to see the current players,” Vaughn said “I'm definitely out of shape with it being 11 years and three kids later but I did the best I could. Most of us have babies so it's hard for us to come out and keep up with these younger players.”
Vaughn's high school team was in attendance in a rare turn of events as they watched their coach play.
“It's a lot of fun,” Vaughn said. “It's good for them to get to come out and see what it's supposed to look like. They like to come out and see their coach play and get to raz me a little bit.”
ISU hosts an exhibition game with Walla Walla Community College Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. before opening the season Friday, Aug. 17 against North Dakota State at 2:30 p.m. in Boise, Idaho.
