Bengals Play at Montana on Thursday

POCATELLO, Idaho- After a stretch of playing five of six games at home, the Idaho State men's basketball team begins a stretch of five of six games on the road beginning this week with games at Montana (Jan. 24) and Montana State (Jan. 26). Both games begin at 7 p.m. and they can be heard live on 102.5 KMGI and 930 KSEI with Jerry Miller calling the action. For live updates on how to follow the game with live stats, video and audio log onto isubengals.com.  The Bengals have played Montana and Montana State more than any other opponent in program history. This is the 182nd meeting with the Bobcats and the 139th meeting with the Griz. Idaho State and Weber State have played 123 times.

Montana leads the overall series 94-44. Idaho State's last victory over Montana came on Dec. 31, 2009 in a 67-65 victory in Pocatello. The last win in Missoula was a 56-54 win during the 2007-08 season.

Montana State leads the series 101-80. The two teams split the series last year, with each team winning on the road. ISU won 87-86 in Bozeman and the Bobcats won, 73-69 in Pocatello.

The week That Was...
The Bengals just finished a stretch where they played four games in seven days and going 2-2 during that stretch. Idaho State won at SUU 54-53, lost at home to Weber State, 70-54 and Northern Arizona, 60-55 while beating Sacramento State, 60-59. Tomas Sanchez averaged 17.3 points and shot .528 percent from the floor (19-36) and .529 percent from the 3-point line (9-17) during the four-game stretch. Chris Hansen averaged 14 points and Melvin Morgan 10 during the four games.

Season High's for Sanchez
In two of the last three gams Sanchez has played he has netted season-highs for scoring points as he scored 18 in the 54-53 win at SUU and followed that with a 22 points performance in the 60-59 victory over Sacramento State on January 17. He is the team's best shooter as he is shooting .475 percent from the field overall and .515 percent in Big Sky Conference play. From the 3-point line, the Bengal guard is shooting .431 overall and .433 in league play. In Sanchez' last five games he has appeared in he is shooting .528 from the field, .463 from the 3-point line (12-for-26) and had 19 assists to 10 turnovers while netting 15.6 points a game.

Conference Play = Improved Numbers in Scoring
Since the start of Big Sky Conference play, the scoring has improved individually and as a team. In nonconference games Melvin Morgan averaged 11.7 points and that average is up to 12.5 in league. Chris Hansen averaged 10 and that has improved to 12  while Tomas Sanchez averaged 8.9 points in nonleague games and is scoring 13.1 in Big Sky contests. Andre Hatchett has improved his average from 5.7 points to 8.1 points and Neveij Walters averaged three points in non league games and 5.6 is league. As a team ISU scored 48.4 points a game in nonconference contests and in Big Sky games that average jumps to 58.1.
