ISU Hosts Seattle at Home, Travels to Weber State

Bengals take on Redhawks Friday at 1 p.m.

ISU women's tennis faces Seattle and Weber State this week.
MATCH NOTES

ABOUT IDAHO STATE

The Idaho State  women's tennis team hosts the Redhawks of Seattle University for its second match of the season. The match is on Friday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. in Reed Gym. Idaho State will then take on Weber State on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. in Ogden, Utah. The Bengals are 0-1 this season, coming off a loss to Utah State on Jan. 18.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BENGALS
The Bengals started their season with a 7-0 loss against Utah State on Jan. 18, 2012. In singles action, Kasey Bacon played a close contest with Utah State's Jaci West, falling 7-6, 7-5 while freshman Madelyn Weltzin took her match at the No. 3 position to three sets, falling to USU's Julie Tukuafu 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Svenja Tegtmeier also took her match at the No. 5 singles to three sets. USU's Kallie Sperry defeated her 5-7, 7-5, 10-2.

BENGAL RETURNERS
ISU's two seniors on the men's side this year are Nate Gross (Sebastopol, Calif.) and Charles Norman (Durban, South Africa). Gross went 9-10 in singles last season at the No. 2 position and went 11-8 in doubles play. Norman played at the No. 1 spot and finished 1-18 in singles and 1-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot. ISU also returns a sophomore class with a lot of experience in Krzysztof Stempien (Lodz, Poland), Austin Miller (Eagle, Idaho) and Andres Coello (Guayaquil, Ecuador).
 
The Bengal women return sophomore Marian Tangarife (Bogota, Columbia) and junior Zamira Vasquez (Sorrento, Columbia). Tangarife went 6-11 last season at the No. 4 singles spot while Vasquez finished 5-9 at the No. 5 position.
 
BENGAL NEWCOMERS
The men's squad welcomes two newcomers this season. Freshmen Jamey Swiggart (Steamboat, Colo.) and Christian Marian (Frankfurt, Germany) enter their first season as Bengals this year.

ISU's women's team welcomes five freshmen to the squad including, Wiebke Boeckmann (Kamen, Germany), Kasey Bacon (Bountiful, Utah), Svenja Tegtmeier (Oldenburg, Germany), Laura Theus (Berlin, Germany) and Madelyn Weltzin (Boise, Idaho).
 
PRESEASON POLL
The Bengal women finished eighth with 37 points and were selected above Portland State (28), North Dakota (27) and Southern Utah (11).

ABOUT SEATTLE
The Bengal women are 0-3 in play against Seattle. The last meeting between the two teams was March 23, 2012. ISU lost 6-1.  The Bengals' point on the match came from Zamira Vasquez's singles defeat over Anna Lambert.

ABOUT WEBER STATE
The Bengals women are 3-18 against Weber State. The last time the two teams met was April 16, 2012. ISU lost 6-1. The Bengals' point came from Marian Tangarife, who defeated Weber State's Nittaya Phonharath in the final match of the season.
