Chicago – The Idaho State Bengal women's basketball team fell 70-62 to Illinois-Chicago in a hard-fought loss in the Bengals first game away from Reed Gym in the 2013-14 season.

Lindsey Reed led the Bengals with a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. With her effort Friday she surpassed the 1000 career points mark at ISU.

The Bengals looked out-of-sorts to start the game and fell behind 22-10 after an UIC freethrow by Terri Bender with 9:46 left in the first half.

Reed hit a three on the next Bengal possession to spark an 11-2 run capped off by a Kyndall Adams three-pointer with 5:34 left to cut the UIC lead to 31-24.

"It's nice to see Lindsey get going again," Sobolewski said. "We need her to be more consistent to be successful and tonight was a great start. After she hit that shot we got the lid off the basket and started hitting a couple threes, the threat of the three opened up some driving lanes and we started getting to the basket."

The Flames and Bengals traded baskets before Idaho State took their first lead (28-27) on two made freethrows from Adams with 3:44 to play in the half.

The Bengals added to their lead to close out the half with a 35-31 advantage.

After the half ISU and UIC traded leads until the Bengals scored just one basket in over six minutes to give UIC a 59-48 lead with 5:26 to play in the game.

Reed cut the lead to 61-58 with 2:40 to play but that is the closest the Bengals would come, UIC finished the Bengals off with free throws.

The Bengals were outrebounded for the first time this season. UIC hauled in 53 rebounds while Idaho State grabbed a season low 35.

Reed was the only Bengal to score in double figures while four Flames scored more than ten. Rachel Story led UIC with 18 points, Katie Hannemann and Terri Bender each scored 12 and Ruvanna Campbell scored 10.

Hannemann added 14 rebounds and Campbell grabbed 11 for double-doubles.

Neither team shot particularly well; Idaho State shot 18-54 from the field and UIC shot 16-54. The difference came in free throws where the Flames were 31-49 to Idaho State's 17-23.

"I'm proud of our team and our effort," Sobolewski said. "We knew they were going to be a big, strong, athletic team but we fought hard and played them to the brink on their home court."

The Bengal schedule doesn't get any easier. ISU will play 20th ranked Oklahoma State Monday at 6 p.m. in Stillwater.
