LOGAN, Utah –LOGAN, Utah – An Idaho State comeback bid fell short as Idaho State fell to Utah State 78-66 in the third consecutive road loss for Idaho State Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Bengals trailed 44-18 at the break but outscored Utah State 48-34 after the break to challenge the Aggies in what looked like a lost cause at the break.
With the loss Idaho State falls to 2-3 on the season and USU stays perfect with a 4-0 record.
Lindsey Reed scored 22 points, 20 after the break to lead the ISU comeback.
Jessica Tingey scored 15 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double in five games this season.
Seven of Tingey's 12 rebounds were on the offensive side of the ball which led to Idaho State outscoring USU 22-9 in second chance points.
Sobolewski was pleased with Tingey's effort on the offensive glass.
"Jessica puts herself in the right position to get some great rebounds," Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. "She isn't the biggest on the court, she isn't the strongest but she is very smart with her positioning."
Overall the Bengals outrebounded Utah State 50-42 including a 36-21 margin in the second frame.
"I like our fight and our scrappiness and we really took it to them in the second half," Sobolewski said. "If we do that in the first half this would have been a totally different game. I didn't feel that intensity in the even in the locker room before we started."
Utah State's Makenlee Williams led all scorers with 24 points, Jennifer Schlott scored 20 including 11-14 from the free throw line and Ingrida Strakas scored 15 for USU.
Strikas led USU with eight rebounds.
The Bengal road trip continues next week when ISU plays Boise State the day after Thanksgiving at 3:30 p.m. at Taco Bell Arena.
