Bengals Battle to a Five-Set Loss to Portland State

Tressa Lyman and Alydia Fields-Grimm both posted double-doubles

Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State volleyball battled the Portland State Vikings to a 3-2 loss tonight at Reed Gym. The Bengals fell 25-21 in the first set before coming back to win the second and third 25-21 and 25-19. The Vikings won the final two sets 25-21 and 15-12.

Sophomore Tressa Lyman led the Bengals with a double-double 15 kills and 12 digs. Alydia Fields-Grimm also posted a double-double 12 kills and 10 digs.

Senior Lori Mendenhall-Lee led in assists with 48 as well as posting nine digs, eight blocks and four kills.

"I'm going to miss being a part of the team. Playing at home, those big plays and big rallies are all things I'm going to miss," said Mendenhall-Lee following the match. "The overall goal is to win a conference championships and that's always been the goal. I still think that's a very realistic goal and I think we just need to be tougher in tight situations. The fans here have been incredible. I'm going to miss that more than anything. The community has been great. It's been a good four years."

Makenzie Filer led the Bengals in blocks with 13. Hayley Farrer led in digs with 15 and Kylee Sessions posted 14.

The Bengals posted a .188 attack percentage compared to Portland State's .164.

"We have to make fewer attack errors. Without question, we have to attack better," said Head Coach Chad Teichert. "We also need to work on ball control. We need to pass and serve better. If we do those things better, we'll do alright."

The Bengals head to the Big Sky Conference Tournament this weekend, Nov. 29 and 30. They face Northern Colorado at 10 a.m. on Friday in Portland, Ore.
