Bengal Basketball Gets Sweep over Montana State

Junior guard Lindsey Reed led Idaho State with 13 points against the Bobcats

The ISU women’s basketball team earned its first sweep over Montana State since the 2007-08 season with a 65-46 win over the Bobcats Thursday night in Bozeman.

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The ISU women's basketball team earned its first sweep over Montana State since the 2007-08 season with a 65-46 win over the Bobcats Thursday night in Bozeman, Mont. Junior guard Lindsey Reed led ISU with 13 points in the contest. With the win, the Bengals improve to 9-5 on the season in Big Sky play and are in a three-way tie for third with Sacramento State and Eastern Washington. Montana State falls to 8-7.
 
Four ISU players, including Reed, scored in double figures Thursday night. Senior forward Jessa Jeppesen added 11 points while seniors Kaela Oakes and Ashleigh Vella posted 10 points apiece.
 
Reed also led the Bengals on the boards with six while junior guard Kara Jenkins added five rebounds, two blocks and eight points for the Bengals.
 
Junior forward Cydney Horton added six points, four rebounds, one assist and a game-high three blocks in the contest.
 
The Bengals shot 40.4 percent from the field in the game and went 45 percent from beyond the arc as Vella, Jenkins and Reed combined hit 7-13 from that range. ISU also shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
“We got off to a great start offensively, going 7-9 from the 3-point line,” Idaho State Head Coach Seton Sobolewski said. “We played great defense the entire game and had a great team effort. A lot of people stepped up when we really needed it and Kara Jenkins had a great game. It was a great overall team effort.”
 
The Bengals held Montana State to 25.5 percent shooting from the floor and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. The Bobcats played 14 players in the contest and no one scored in double figures. MSU's leading scorer, Rachel Semansky, entered the contest averaging 13.4 points per contest. The Bengals held her to just seven points tonight. Semansky hit just two field goals and had three points from the free throw line.
 
Idaho State dominated in the paint, outscoring MSU 20-12 in that category. Idaho State also scored 22 points off turnovers, forcing Montana State to give the ball up 19 times. ISU only turned the ball over 12 times.
 
Montana State did out-rebound the Bengals 43-36. The Bobcats had 20 offensive rebounds to Idaho State's 11.
 
The Bengals led the Bobcats 38-26 at the half and outscored MSU 27-20 in the second half for a 65-46 finish. ISU led by as many as 27 points midway through the second half. Montana State never held a lead over the Bengals in the entire contest.
