ISU Tennis Face Weber State on Saturday at Home

Idaho State men's and women's tennis take on conference rival Weber State at home Saturday, March 2. The Bengal men play at 10 a.m. in Reed. The Bengal women will follow. The women's match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BENGALS
Idaho State men's tennis continued to win in Big Sky Conference play by defeating Eastern Washington Friday at home 7-0. It was the first time since 2008 the Bengal men had defeated Eastern Washington.  It was also the first time since 2004 the Bengals defeated a conference opponent 7-0. ISU improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Idaho State women's tennis fell to Portland State Saturday afternoon 5-2. The women's team is now 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. Idaho State's sophomore Marian Tangarife and freshman Kasey Bacon recorded wins in the match. Tangarife won at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 7-5 while Bacon took the No. 2 spot over PSU's Marina Todd 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

BENGAL LEADERS
In singles action, ISU men's tennis has five players who are 2-0 in conference play. The Bengal men have been lead by freshman Christian Marian who is 4-1 in singles action. Marian and partner, freshman Jamey Swiggart, are 3-1 in doubles play at the No. 2 spot. Sophomores Krzysztof Stempien and Andres Coello are 4-1 in doubles play at the No. 3 position.

In singles action, ISU women's tennis has five players who have recorded victories this season. Freshman Kasey Bacon and sophomore Marian Tangarife have both recorded two singles victories, which leads the team.
 
PRESEASON POLL
The Bengal men finished fifth with 66 points while Sacramento State was picked first (99). Montana was picked second (91), Eastern Washington was selected third (74) and Weber State was chosen fourth (68).

The Bengal women finished eighth with 37 points and were selected above Portland State (28), North Dakota (27) and Southern Utah (11).

ABOUT WEBER STATE
The Bengal men will face Weber State for the second time this season. The most recent match between these two teams was Jan. 20, 2013, when Weber State defeated ISU 4-3. Christian Marian, Jamey Swiggart and Austin Miller all recorded singles victories in the match.  

The Bengal women have faced Weber State 21 times in the past. The most recent match between these two teams was Feb. 1, 2013 when Weber State overcame the Bengals 6-1. The Bengal point came from freshman Svenja Tegtmeier's singles victory over Michelle Warwick at the No.  5 spot.
