ISU Women's Tennis Travels to Boise State Tournament

Bengals play Boise State Friday at 5 p.m. and Idaho Saturday at 11 a.m.

Idaho State women's tennis plays Boise State and Idaho this weekend in Boise.

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State women's tennis travels to Boise State University to participate in the Boise State Tournament Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9. Idaho State faces Boise State, Friday, at 5 p.m. and Idaho, Saturday, at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BENGALS
Idaho State women's tennis dropped a match against Weber State on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Ogden, Utah, 6-1.The Bengal point came from freshman Svenja Tegtmeier's singles victory over Michelle Warwick at the No. 5 position 6-1, 7-5. Marian Tangarife played a hard match against Nittaya Phonharath in the No. 3 spot but ultimately fell in the third set 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Another close match for the Bengals was between Laura Theus and Weber State's Annika Karlsen in the No. 6 position. The match went to three sets and Theus was defeated 7-6, 9-7, 6-4.

BENGAL RETURNERS
ISU's two seniors on the men's side this year are Nate Gross (Sebastopol, Calif.) and Charles Norman (Durban, South Africa). Gross went 9-10 in singles last season at the No. 2 position and went 11-8 in doubles play. Norman played at the No. 1 spot and finished 1-18 in singles and 1-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot. ISU also returns a sophomore class with a lot of experience in Krzysztof Stempien (Lodz, Poland), Austin Miller (Eagle, Idaho) and Andres Coello (Guayaquil, Ecuador).
 
The Bengal women return sophomore Marian Tangarife (Bogota, Columbia) and junior Zamira Vasquez (Sorrento, Columbia). Tangarife went 6-11 last season at the No. 4 singles spot while Vasquez finished 5-9 at the No. 5 position.
 
BENGAL NEW  COMERS
The men's squad welcomes two newcomers this season. Freshmen Jamey Swiggart (Steamboat, Colo.) and Christian Marian (Frankfurt, Germany) enter their first season as Bengals this year.

The ISU women team welcomes five freshmen to the squad including, Wiebke Boeckmann (Kamen, Germany), Kasey Bacon (Bountiful, Utah), Svenja Tegtmeier (Oldenburg, Germany), Laura Theus (Berlin, Germany) and Madelyn Weltzin (Boise, Idaho).
 
PRESEASON POLL
The Bengal women were picked eighth in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll with 37 points and were selected above Portland State (28), North Dakota (27) and Southern Utah (11).

ABOUT BOISE STATE
The Bengal women have only played Boise State once in their history. The first and only meeting until now, was Feb. 8 2003, where the Broncos defeated the Bengals 7-0.

ABOUT IDAHO
The Bengal women have played the University of Idaho Vandals once in their history. The teams first meeting was March 2 2008, where the Vandels overcame the Bengals 7-0.
