Men’s Tennis Still Perfect in Big Sky

ISU men’s tennis defeated Southern Utah 7-0 Thursday in Cedar City

Freshman Jamey Swiggart is now 10-2 in singles play this season after winning the No. 4 singles Thursday in ISU's 7-0 win over Southern Utah.
CEDAR CITY, Utah – Idaho State men's tennis remains perfect in Big Sky play after defeating Southern Utah 7-0 Thursday afternoon. The Bengals improve to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
The men began the match with a sweep in the doubles. Senior Charles Norman and sophomore Austin Miller defeated Troy Benson and Bryton Wells 8-4 at the No. 1 singles while freshmen Jamey Swiggart and Christian Marian downed Alex Dial and Spencer Nielsen 8-0 at the No. 2 position. Sophomores Andres Coello and Krzysztof Stempien defeated Russ Christensen and Branden Olcott 8-2 at the No. 3 doubles. Stempien and Coello's win improves the duo to 9-3 in doubles play this season and 5-0 against conference teams. They are 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
 
The Bengals won the singles contests handedly with no match exceeding two sets.
 
Marian defeated Benson 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles and Norman won the No. 2 position with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wells.
 
Stempien won the No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2 against Dial and Swiggart improved his singles record to 10-2 with a win at the No. 4 singles. Swiggart defeated Christensen 6-0, 6-1.
 
Miller defeated Nielsen 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot and Coello won both sets at the No. 6 position against Olcott 6-0.
 
ISU's men wrap up the week with a match-up against conference foe Northern Arizona Sunday, March 31 at 3 p.m.
