Idaho State Men’s Tennis Closes 2013 With 8-0 Home Record

ISU defeated non-conference opponent Seattle Sunday, recording first undefeated home season in more than 10 years.

POCATELLO, Idaho
- Idaho State men's tennis defeated non-conference opponent Seattle University in the final home match of the season on Sunday 5-0. Sunday also marked the final home appearances for seniors Charles Norman and Nate Gross.
 
The Bengals came out strong, earning the doubles point. Norman and Gross defeated Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones in the No.1 position 8-4. Sophomores Krzysztof Stempien and Andres Coello continued to lead the Bengals in double play. The sophomore team improved the 13-3 on the season when they overcame Kyle Rapp and Flavio Malagutti in the No. 3 spot 8-3.
 
Freshman Christain Marian defeated Kevin Lynch in the No. 1 position 6-7, 6-3,10-4 while freshman Jamey Swiggart overcame Jason Bediones in the No 5 spot 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Austin Miller overpowered Flavio Malagutti in the No. 6 position 6-7, 6-3, 10-4.
 
With the win Sunday, ISU finishes the 2013 season with a perfect 9-0 home record, the first undefeated home record for the program since before the 2002-03 season.
 
The Bengals are also on a six-match winning streak for the second time this season as the squad prepares for the final two regular season contests next week. With Montana State defeating Montana 5-2 today, the Bengals will need to win both matches to earn its first Big Sky regular season title since 1990.
 
The Bengals travel to Montana Saturday, April 20 and Montana State Sunday, April 21 to conclude regular season play. The men have already secured a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament and travel to Sacramento, Calif., April 26-28 to compete for the program's first team tournament title. The ISU women also travel to Montana and Montana State next week to conclude the 2013 season.
