POCATELLO, Idaho - The Big Sky Champion Idaho State Bengal Softball team added speedy infielder
Sarah Hayes from Napa, Calif.
Â
Hayes was a three sport star for Vintage High School and also finished school with a four year 3.9 GPA.
Â
"Sarah is a tremendous athlete," Idaho State coach Julia Wright said. "She is fast and aggressive and she will compete on every pitch. She is also a stellar student and I know she will do very well academically here at ISU."
Â
Hayes brings an impressive resume to Idaho State. She was a four year softball starter and received All-State honors as a senior.
Â
She overcame an early spring appendectomy to bat .522 with 48 hits, three doubles, a home run and 14 RBIs. She also scored 40 runs scored and stole 21 bases.
Â
On the bag at third she had just two errors for a .959 fielding percentage.
Â
During her junior campaign she batted .518 with 44 hits, 29 runs, 22 stolen bases, an on-base percentage of .549 and a fielding percentage of .935. The effort earned her a nod as All-County Offensive Player of the Year.
Â
She was also all-county for basketball her senior year and played varsity tennis.
Â
Academically she was a four year Honor Roll Student.
Â
"I love athletic kids who can do anything and play anywhere and she certainly fits that bill," Wright said. "We are thrilled for Sarah and her family to join our Bengal family."
