ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The defending Big Sky champion Idaho State soccer team takes the pitch for the start of the regular season with in-state foes Boise State and Idaho. It will be the first home season opener since 2008.
The Bengals return seven starters from the 2012 season including Big Sky co-Offensive MVP junior Amanda Ellsworth, Big Sky Tournament MVP sophomore Sheridan Hapsic, All-Big Sky Second Team member senior Allyson Stainbrook, and Honorable Mention All-Big Sky honorees sophomore Vanessa Cabilan and junior Taylor McBride.
Reigning Big Sky Coach of the Year Allison Gibson leads the Bengals in her eighth season. Fourth year coach Stephanie Beall remains Gibson's right hand and former player Megan Beckstead joins the Bengal staff.
IDAHO STATE DEFEATS COLLEGE OF IDAHO 9-0
Eight Bengal players scored to lead Idaho State to the 9-0 exhibition victory over the College of Idaho Tuesday afternoon at Davis Field.
The Bengals outshot the Yotes 23-4 in a dominant performance in the final tune-up before regular season starts.
Lanie Ward, Laura Benson, Alyssa Kenney, Kiley Godfrey, Whitner Peterson, Amanda Ellsworth(2), Jessica Sanchez and Lauren Bermudez all scored in the rout.
The Bengals outshot their two preseason opponents 45-6.
BENGALS CO-FAVORITES IN PRESEASON POLL
The Idaho State women's soccer team tied for top billing in the preseason Big Sky Rankings. The returning Big Sky Champions share the top spot with 2012 regular season co-champions Portland State, both teams garnered 68 total points. Montana, also regular season co-champions were ranked third with 65 points.
The Bengals received four first place votes, Portland State received one and Montana two. Fourth ranked Weber State received two first place votes and sixth ranked Northern Arizona one.
ABOUT BOISE STATE
The Bengals have an all-time 7-7-1 record against the Broncos including 4-1-0 at Davis Field. Four of the 15 games in the history of the rivalry went into overtime. The Broncos were picked to finish fifth in the 2013 Mountain West Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.
Boise State finished third the Mountain West in 2012 going 4-2 in MWC play and 9-9-1 overall.
The match will be the season opener for both teams.
ABOUT IDAHO
The Vandals will start their season at Weber State Friday ahead of their game at Davis Field Sunday. The Vandals lead the Series 5-6-3 but the Bengals won the 2012 match 2-0 in Boise.
Idaho tied with Utah Valley for the second pick in the WAC Preseason Poll behind Seattle U. Idaho went 6-14-1 last season and 3-4-1 in the WAC, reaching the WAC tournament for the third consecutive season. The Vandals return 11 letter-winners and 13 players overall from last season, while bringing in 13 newcomers for 2013.
END OF THE GOVERNOR'S CUP
Though the Bengals are playing Idaho and Boise State in what was traditionally the Governor's Cup. 2012 was the last GC and these matches are just regular season non-conference matches.
