POCATELLO, Idaho- This year Bengal fans will see on the back of the team's shirts the motto, "Can Do." The "Can Do" concept was formed by coach Mike Kramer after watching how his team on offense and defense struggled inside the 50-yard line.
"When we got across midfield we weren't really conscience of what was the possibility on both sides of the ball," Kramer said.
The 2012 ISU offense scored 25 touchdowns and was 22-42 in the red zone scoring touchdowns. This is a number the coaching staff wants to see improved.
"We need to score more points, not just field goals but more touchdowns once we cross the 50," Kramer said.
On the defensive side, Kramer said that the unit's worst football was played from about the 50 to 35-yard line.
"We had so many hideous runs of 40, 50 45, long passes and boot legs that got away from us," the Bengal coach said. "We want our guys to play good football all the time."
Kramer added, "This year's team with the concept of "Can Do" really refers to, we can do it better when we are up against the wall. That is on offense and defense once the ball crosses the 50-yard line."
The Bengals are inching closer to preparation for the season-opener on Sept. 7 vs. Dixie State at Holt Arena. As the start the season nears Tuesday's practice and Wednesday's scrimmage will play an important role in 2013.
"This Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday is I think the most important part of the entire season for myself and my staff in getting our team to elevate their play to a level they don't understand they can get too," Kramer said. "I thought we did that this morning and we will see how they react tomorrow and how we play on Wednesday afternoon."
Season and single-game tickets are on sale at the Holt Arena Ticket Office. Fans can also purchase tickets by calling 208-282-FANS or by logging onto isubengals.com.
All home games begin at 3 p.m., except for Homecoming on Oct. 5 vs. North Dakota. That contest kicks off at 2 p.m.
