BENGAL OVERVIEW
Idaho State volleyball opens the 2013 season this weekend at the University of Missouri tournament
in Columbia, Mo. They play their first game on Friday at 10 a.m. against South Dakota State. They also play Arkansas State at 4 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, they play Missouri at 12:30 p.m. and Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. A live stats link is available at ISUBengals.com.
ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The Bengals had their second undefeated home season in 2012 when they went 10-0 at Reed Gym. The Bengals first undefeated home season came in 1987 when head coach Jim Churniss led the Bengals to a 15-0 home record.
The 2012 team had 23 total wins over the season. They tied for third for most total wins in a single eason in program history. The record, set by Churniss in 1987, is 31 wins in a single season.
BENGAL HONORS
Senior setter Lori Mendenhall-Lee is the retuning Big Sky Regular Season MVP, Idaho State's first since 1990's Susie Ketchem. Mendenhall-Lee holds the Idaho State record for career attack percentage with .323 and ranks second for single season attack percentage with .366. She also ranks fifth for all-time career assists with 2811 and eighth for single season assists with 1297. She was named Big Sky Player of the Week twice during the 2012 season and to All-Tournament team at the Big Sky Championships, All-Nike Portland Invitational and the Keiser Classic.
Big Sky All-Conference Honorable Mention Tressa Lyman returns as well. Lyman led the Bengals in kills with 326 and points with 384 during the 2012 season. She ranked second on the team for service aces with 24. She was named Big Sky Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
BIG SKY PRESEASON POLL
The Bengals were picked to finish second in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll on Aug. 13. They had 83 points and two first-place votes. The Bengals finished second during the regular season and at the Big Sky Tournament. Portland State topped the poll with 95 points and seven first-place votes. Portland State won the Big Sky regular season championship. Tournament champions Northern Colorado placed third in the poll with 75 points.
