POCATELLO, Idaho- In the Bengals only game of the week, the ISU men's basketball team hosts SUU on Thursday, January 16, at 7 p.m. at ICCU Court in Holt Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Rock 102.5 and 930 CBS Sports Radio with
Jerry Miller and
Brad Bugger calling the action.Â
At halftime of Thursday's game, the 2013 Bengal Big Sky championship volleyball team will be honored for their recent success. The team will sign autographs after the game behind the West bleachers and autograph cards will be handed out to the first 500 fans. A limited number of championship shirts will also be available after the game for $15.
SUU leads the series, 13-7. The two teams split last year, with ISU winning 54-53 in Cedar City and losing 81-79 in overtime at Holt Arena. The outcome in six of the last seven meetings has been decided by four points or less.
Southern Utah is 1-12 and 0-4 in Big Sky Conference play. The T-Birds are averaging 54.2 points a game and shooting .354 percent from the field. Trey Kennedy leads SUU in scoring at 10.1 points a game. SUU's only win was an 85-78 victory over Arizona Christian.
Getting Offensive
This year the Bengal men's basketball team has shot 50 percent or better from the field in five of the team's 13 games. Last year ISU shot 50 percent or better in only one game (.638 at home vs. Montana State). In the 2011-12 season ISU only shot 50 percent or better in five games and in the 2010-11 and 2009-10 season the Bengals managed only six games of shooting 50 percent or better. ISU did shoot 50 percent or better in 11 games in the 2008-09 season.
Scoring Spree for Hatchett
Andre Hatchett has started Big Sky Conference play with the hot hand. Through the first four games he is averaging 21.8 points, shooting .609 percent from the floor (28-46), .714 percent from the free throw line (30-42) and averaging six rebounds a game while dishing out 15 assists in the four games. He had a career high 27 vs. Eastern Washington, scored 24 vs. Portland State, 25 at Northern Colorado and 11 at North Dakota. Hatchett was named the Big Sky Conference and College Sports Madness Player of the Week for his performances vs. Eastern Washington and Portland State.
Bengals in the Ncaa Stats
Idaho State ranks 21st in field goal percentage at 47.3 percent, 27th in steals at 8.5 and 59th in field goal percentage at 47.3. Jeff Solarin is ninth in the country in field goal percentage at 62.5 percent.
Chris Hansen is 36th in 3-pointers made per game at 2.92 and 44th in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.8 percent.
Beyond the Arc
The school record for the best 3-point field goal percentage in a season is .392 (235-599) by the 2000-01 team. This year's team is currently shooting .405 percent (77-190) from beyond the arc.
