Montana State and Idaho State to Battle on Saturday in Reed Gym

Idaho State plays host to Montana State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team plays its third game in six days on Saturday, January 25, at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym against Montana State. Montana State leads the series 104-82 with ISU winning two of the last three meetings. The Bengals beat Montana State 87-51 in Pocatello last year and lost 61-59 in overtime in Bozeman. The last Idaho State win at Montana State was an 87-86 victory on Feb. 2, 2012.  ISU is 17-11 against the Bobcats in the last 26 meetings.

Montana State is 9-9 and 4-3 in Big Sky Conference play.  The Bobcats lost 86-57 at Weber State on Thursday night. MSU is led in scoring by Flavien Davis who is scoring 11.5 pnts a game. He is averaging 13.6 points in Big Sky play. Paul Egwuonwu is scoring 11.4 points in conference and averaging a team-best 5.9 rebounds in league and 7.1 overall. Montana State is scoring 71.3 overall and 69.3 in conference while shooting .458 from the field (overall).

Playing it Close
Eight of the Bengals 10 losses are by eight points or less. The Bengals lost by eight points at Utah, seven at Northern Colorado, six at Weber State, four at North Dakota and vs. Idaho, two at Bakersfield and four at home vs. Bakersfield and five vs. Montana.  ISU's only double digit losses are at Arizona State (88-60) and Washington (85-66).

Solarin on the Boards
In the six Bengal wins Jeff Solarin has had four games of 10 rebounds or more and two games with seven rebounds. He had a career-high 13 vs. Southern Utah, 11 vs. Eastern Washington and 10 vs. Evergreen and Carroll College. His seven rebounds came against Portland State and USF. His three double-doubles this season have come in wins over Evergreen (23 points and 10 rebounds), Carroll (16 points and 10 rebounds) and Eastern Washington (14 points and 11 rebounds). He has six rebounds or more in the 14 of 15 games he has appeared in.

Bengal Bites
- The Bengals are grabbing a league-best 10.9 offensive rebounds a game.
- Under Bill Evans, Idaho State has only two wins when shooting less than 40 percent. Both of those wins are against Southern Utah. Last year, ISU shot 34 percent in a 54-53 victory in Cedar City and on January 16 of this season ISU shot 36 percent in a 60-45 win at Holt Arena.
- The 11 assists from Tomas Sanchez vs. Eastern Washington on January 4 is the most since Akbar Abdul-Ahad had 12 vs. Idaho on Dec. 6, 2006.
- The 21 turnovers vs. Portland State on Jan. 2 was the first time a Bill Evans coached team at Idaho State had 20 turnovers or more in a game.  ISU also had 23 turnovers at North Dakota on Jan. 9, 2014.
-  Jeff Solarin is averaging a Big Sky Conference best 4.5 offensive rebounds a game.
- Since the 2004-05 season, only the 2005-06 team has finished the season averaging more than 70 points a game. That team finished the year with an average of 78.7 points a contest. This year's Bengal team is scoring 70.8 points a game.
- Tomas Sanchez has scored in double figures in 14 of 16 games and he has had five assists or more in eight of 16 games.
- Andre Hatchett has scored in double figures in 12 of 16 games and had five rebounds or more in nine of 16 games.
- In the last 11 years ISU is 15-26 in overtime games. Since the 2006-07 season ISU has played 27 overtime games, winning eight.
- The Bengals won four road games in the 2011-12 season and one in the 2012-13 season. The four road wins in 2011-12 was the most since winning two in the 2008-09 season. In the last nine seasons the most road games ISU has won in a season is five in
2005-06.
- ISU is 4-57 in non-conference road/neutral court games over the last six years. ISU is 17-12 in non-conference home games over that same time period.  Before the 93-90 overtime win at USF, the last road non conference win was Nov. 28, 2009, a 68-65 at UMKC. The Bengals beat Troy, 77-73 on Dec. 22, 2010 at Utah State.
