POCATELLO, Idaho – Four players scored in double figures including a career-afternoon for freshman
Megan Hochstein as Idaho State picked up their first victory of the season 88-69 over Northwest Nazarene Monday afternoon on the ICCU Court inside Reed Gym.
The Meridian, Idaho native finished with 20 points on 9-10 from the field.
"I thought Megan did a great job on the offensive glass," Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. "She put herself in the right position to get put backs. She worked really hard to get in the right spot."
"I definitely got a lot of great looks because of my teammates," Hochstein said. "Our team chemistry is getting better the more that we do."
Grace Kenyon added a double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds and six assists) for the Bengals who had 21 assists on 34 made shots.
"Everyone came out and played really hard," Kenyon said. "It was a nice team win. We've been emphasizing effort a lot in practice and that definitely carried onto the court."
"We are moving the ball better," Sobolewski said. "A coach is always going to be excited when their team has 21 assists like we did tonight. It shows that we can make the extra pass and really share the ball."
Apiphany Woods and
Jasmine Lemon each registered a season-high 14 points as ISU shot 48.6% from the field and led by as many as 27 in the second half.
"We are seeing the court better and staying more relaxed and composed," Hochstein said.
ISU hits the road for a trip to Puerto Rico to play two games in the San Juan Shootout. The Bengals will face off against San Diego State Thursday at 12 p.m. before taking on the University of Houston Friday at 3 p.m. Links to follow the game will be available at isubengals.com
"It's definitely better to go into this tournament off a win," Sobolewski said. "We are going to see two tough teams that are really athletic. It's a great chance for the girls to experience a new culture as well without having to miss any class."
