Bengals Finish Puerto Rico Tourney with Victory over University of Houston

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –Anna Lee Policicchio scored a career-high 20 points as the Idaho State women's basketball team defeated the University of Houston 73-67 Friday afternoon at the San Juan Shootout.

"It was important for us to keep our composure because they can put a lot of pressure on you," Head Coach Seton Sobolewski said. "We are getting more mature and experienced.  We stayed positive today and took good shots."

Policicchio's three-pointer at the half-time buzzer sent the Bengals to the locker room with a 34-31 lead.  The junior forward would finish 8-9 from the field. She also added six rebounds and five block shots.

"She shot the ball really well but more importantly she took good shots," Sobolewski said. "She did a good job of putting herself in a position to make some layups."

Apiphany Woods added 15 points on 5-8 shooting in just 24 minutes of play. It is her third consecutive game scoring in double-figures

"She was really productive today," Sobolewski said. "I think we are seeing more of what we can expect out of her. It's really nice to see that come out in the last few games. She has really stepped up."

The Bengals dominated the Cougars inside outscoring them 30-12 in the paint while also holding UH to just 38.6% shooting.

"They were extending so much of their pressure that they left things open going at the basket," Sobolewski said. "We did a good job of recognizing that and making shots."

Grace Kenyon added 13 points and five rebounds while Megan Hochstein finished with 10 points on 3-4 shooting.

ISU travels back to Pocatello for a game against Boise State next Thursday at 7 p.m on the ICCU Court inside Reed Gym.  The Bengals split their two games in the San Juan Shootout.

"We got a chance to play some different competition from outside our region that we wouldn't normally get a chance to face," Sobolewski said. "It's important to play these games because it really tests us against a different style of play."
