THIS WEEK IN IDAHO STATE BASKETBALL
The Bengals host Southern Utah Thursday at 7 p.m. at Reed Gym in their lone game of the week. The Bengals are coming off a 64-59 overtime loss at Big Sky leader North Dakota.
ISU had won four straight games and six of the last seven games before their loss at UND. The Bengals currently sit in a tie for fourth place with Sacramento State and Eastern Washington.
Lindsey Reed leads ISU with 15.3 points per game.
Jessica Tingey scores 11.4 PPG and leads the Bengals with 6.9 rebounds per game.
ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH
The T-Birds are in a tie with Montana for second place in the conference with an 8-4 Big Sky record and a 14-7 overall record.
Hailey Mandelko leads SUU with 12 PPG followed by Lori Parkinson with 11.9 PPG and Carli Moreland with 11 PPG. Moreland and Parkinson lead the Thunderbirds with 7.9 rebounds per game each.
Head Coach JR Payne is in her sixth year at the helm of the SUU women's basketball program. She has a career record of 58-82.

Idaho State survived a late comeback bid to top Southern Utah, 69-65, at Centrum Arena Saturday afternoon.
Jessica Tingey led Idaho State with a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds while
Lindsey Reed scored 13.
Idaho State built an 18-point lead with 8:30 remaining but SUU cut it to four before the Bengals responded and held off the T-Birds for the win.
The Bengals outrebounded Southern Utah 48-41 led by Tingey's nine. The Bengals shot were 24-of-54 from the field for a .462 shooting percentage, their second highest of the season. The Bengals also held SUU to 20-of- 70(.286) from the field.
The game was only home loss of the season for the Thunderbirds.
LAST GAME: NORTH DAKOTA
The first time Idaho State and North Dakota met this season, North Dakota escaped Pocatello with a one-point, 48-47, win. It was no surprise that the second game was just as close, but unfortunately for Idaho State the outcome was the same, a UND victory. This time the Bengals fell 64-59 in their first overtime game of the season.
The first half started as a defensive battle with neither team gaining a significant advantage. The Bengals led 16-15 after a jumper by
Jessica Tingey with 9:32 remaining, but North Dakota finished the half on an 18-5 run to lead 33-21 at the break.
Idaho State held UND to just 20 points in the second half on 6-of-21 shooting (28.6 percent) to outscore UND 32-20 and tie the game at 53 at the end of regulation. In overtime the UND outscored ISU 11-6.
The Bengals were paced by Reed who had 15 points and 11 rebounds both team highs. Tingey had 14 points and eight rebounds for ISU. Mia Loyd led UND with 17 points and nine rebounds; Madi Buck had 13 points and also grabbed nine rebounds for North Dakota.
SOBOLEWSKI BECOMES THE WINNINGEST COACH IN ISU HISTORY
The win over Northern Arizona was Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski's 94th career victory. The win pushed Sobolewski past Jon Newlee as the winningest coach in ISU history.
Sobolewski has led Idaho State to the Big Sky tournament each year of his tenure including 2012 when the Bengals won the championship to advance to the NCAA tournament. He has a career .543 winning percentage with the latest of the wins coming Saturday afternoon against his alma mater, Northern Arizona.
REED HITS THE MILLENNIUM MARK
With 19 points against Illinois-Chicago
Lindsey Reed surpassed 1000 career points. She is just the 17th player in ISU history to join the 1000 point club. She also hit the 500 career rebound mark against Black Hills State in the first game of the season. Reed is the leading scorer for the Bengals this season and averages 14.6 PPG.
TRIP TO THE WNIT
The Bengals played in their second-consecutive post season national tournament in 2013. The Bengals played Brigham Young in Provo in the opening round of the WNIT. The Bengals fell 69-54 to the Cougars.
Ashleigh Vella scored a team high 15 points and
Jessa Jeppesen grabbed eight rebounds in the loss to BYU.
TWO STARTERS RETURN FOR THE BENGALS
Kara Jenkins and
Lindsey Reed return for the Bengals. Jenkins comes into the season with 580 career points and 479 career rebounds. She has played in 93 games and has 53 starts for Idaho State.
Reed has 970 career points and 492 career rebounds. She has 92 games under her belt including 89 starts in her career at ISU.
OTHER RETURNERS FOR THE BENGALS
Along with the two starters the Bengals have three other seniors, one junior and one sophomore to round out the list of returning players.
Senior
Jessica Tingey, formerly Jessica Jensen, has 64 career points and 65 career rebounds. Senior
Alissa Willard, a JC transfer, played in 15 games in 2012-13 and scored four points. Senior
Sheryl Bitter has the most experience of last season's non-starters; she had played in 77 games and scored 109 points in her career at Idaho State.
Junior Becca Schimpsher has played in 35 career games and has 46 points. Sophomore
Anna Lee Policicchio played in only six games last season but spent time over the summer with the Canadian U19 National team.

BENGALS RANKED FIFTH IN BOTH PRESEASON POLLS
The Idaho State Women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Big Sky Conference by both the coaches and the media.
The first five spots were the same in both polls. Eastern Washington is the favorite followed by Montana, Northern Colorado, Montana State then Idaho State.
In the coaches poll the Bengals were picked just above Southern Utah followed by Portland State, North Dakota, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona and Weber State. In the Media Poll Sacramento State was picked in the sixth spot followed by Portland State Southern Utah, North Dakota, Northern Arizona and Weber State. ISU received four first place votes in the media poll out of 30 ballots cast.
