POCATELLO, Idaho – The Montana Grizzlies started with a 12-0 run and never trailed en route to a 76-67 win over Idaho State Saturday afternoon in Reed Gym.
After the big start by the Lady Griz, the Bengals battled back to cut the lead to 21-17 on a 3-pointer by
Kara Jenkins with 11:44 to play in the first half.
The Griz extended their lead back to 15, with 2:43 left in the first half on a jumper by Jordan Sullivan. ISU cut the lead to 12, 47-35, at the break.
Lindsey Reed scored 14 of her team-high 21 points in the first half. The Bengals were out-rebounded 25-15 before the break which led to 37 shots compared to 22 for ISU.
Idaho State began to chip away at the Lady Griz lead late in the second half. A 10-3 run, powered by two 3-pointers by
Rebecca Schrimpsher, cut the Griz lead to 65-63 with 2:30 remaining.
Montana finished the game with an 11-4 run, including nine free throws to close out the 76-67 win.
ISU was 19-53 (35.8 percent) from the field for the game while Montana was 24-60 (40 percent). The Lady Griz out-rebounded ISU 46-33.
Reed led ISU with 21 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Schrimpsher scored 14 for the Bengals. Jenkins added 11 and
Jessica Tingey scored 10 for ISU.
Kellie Cole led Montana with 27 points and eight rebounds. Torry Hill scored 19 for the Lady Griz.
The Bengals are 10-15 overall and 8-8 in Big Sky play. ISU is tied with Montana State and Sacramento State for fifth place with four games remaining. The Bengals hold the tiebreaker over MSU and will meet Sac State next Saturday.
The Grizzlies remain in a tie with Southern Utah for second place at 11-6 and 17-8 overall. North Dakota holds a 1.5 game lead in first at 13-4.
