No. 4 Arizona State Tops ISU 13-4

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 4 Arizona State scored 12 runs in the first two innings en route to a 13-4 victory over Idaho State Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Diamond Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils scored three runs in the first and nine in the second to build a big enough cushion to take out starting pitcher Dallas Escobedo after two innings of shutout softball.

Against her replacement, Alexis Cooper, the Bengals found more success.  In the top of the third, Kacie Burnett reached base on an error to get the offense started. Vicky Galasso then singled to center field to score Katelyn Marquez.

Terah Blackwell scored on an error at third and Galasso scored when Sarah Hayes hit a single to left field to cut the ASU lead to 12-4.

The Sun Devils added one run in the bottom half of the third for the 13-4 lead.

Arizona State shut out Idaho State for the next two innings to end the game in the fifth.

The Bengals were led by Galasso and Hayes with one RBI each.  Hailey Douglas started the game for ISU and allowed nine earned runs in one inning. She is 3-3 on the season.

Bailey Foster pitched three innings for Idaho State and allowed four earned runs.

Alix Johnson led Arizona State with four RBIs, all on a grand slam in the second inning.

Cooper was awarded the win in relief for ASU and is now 2-0.

The Bengals are 6-5 on the season while Arizona State moves to 17-0.

Idaho State next plays five games in the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Feb. 28 – March, 2.
