POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State men's tennis defeated Northern Arizona 4-3 to earn their first win of the season, Saturday morning, at Reed Gym.
The Bengals started off the match with a 2-0 win in the doubles point.Â
Jamey Swiggart and Austin miller defeated Alexandre Locci and Fabio Tomasetti 8-6 at No. 1 and Krzystztof Stempien and
Josh Goodwin defeated Alan Barrios and Trevor Unger 8-2 at No. 2 to give ISU the 1-0 lead going into the singles competition.
Goodwin upped the lead to 2-0 with a quick 6-4, 6-1 win over Unger.
Tomasetti tallied the first win for Northern Arizona with a 6-2, 6-4 win over
Austin Miller at No. 3.
The Bengals took a 3-1 lead when Stempien defeated Locci 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.
Idaho State clinched the win with the 6-3, 6-4 win by
Jamey Swiggart over Jordan Gobatie at No. 1.
NAU won the two remaining matches to close the deficit to one after the match was decided.
Idaho State is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Big Sky play.
The Bengals next play Eastern Washington in Cheney, Friday. ISU doesn't play at home until March, 31st against Montana State.
