POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team split matches Saturday. The Bengals lost to the Air Force Academy 4-0 Saturday Morning but came from behind to win a Big Sky Conference match over Montana State Saturday afternoon.
Both matches were at the Reed Gym tennis courts.
Air Force 4, Idaho State 0
Idaho State was swept in an abbreviated match Saturday morning.
In the lone doubles match played, Marcelli Magday and Anastasia Hueffner defeated
Marian Tangarife and
Laura Theus 8-0.
In singles, Tiffany Tran defeated
Kasey Bacon 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1. At No. 2 Mary Meyers defeated
Svenja Tegtmeier 6-4, 6-0 and No. 3 Natasha Rizvi defeated
Wiebke Boeckmann 6-2, 6-1.
The No. 4 match was suspended after the match was decided.
Air Force is now 14-5 on the season.
Idaho State 4, Montana State 3
Montana State took a 3-1 lead before the Bengals won the final three matches to complete comeback.
MSU started with a close win in the doubles competition.
Laura Middel and Ellie Crum defeated Boeckmann and Tegtmeier 8-1 at No. 2. At No. 1 Paulina Lopez and Iva Parapunova defeated Tangarife and Theus 8-7 (7-1). The No. 3 match was suspended with the Bengals leading.
In singles The Bengals evened up the score when Tangarife defeated Parapunova 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1.
The Bobcats then took two straight points at No. 2 and No. 3.
At No. 2 Middel defeated Bacon 7-5, 7-5 and at No. 3 Lopez defeated Tegtmeier 6-4, 6-0 to give MSU a 3-1 lead.
With the match on the brink Weltzin defeated Ellie Crum 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
At No. 5 Boeckmann defeated Wena Tsan 6-1, 6-2. At No. 6 Theus defeated Molly Crum 6-1, 6-4 to give the Bengals the 4-3 victory, their first conference win of the season.
ISU is now 4-10 on the season and 1-3 in the Big Sky.
Montana State is 5-10 and 2-4 in the conference.
The Bengals play Montana Sunday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Reed Gym.
