POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State men's tennis swept Southern Utah 7-0 in the final home match of the 2014 season Friday afternoon at Reed Gym.
The Bengals started off the match with a quick 2-0 win in the doubles point.
Jamey Swiggart and
Daniel Loebel defeated Troy Benson and Blair Robbins 8-4 at No. 1. At No. 2,
Krzysztof Stempien and
Bjorn Scheepbouwer defeated Alex Dial and Ammon Story 8-1 to clinch the doubles point and give ISU a 1-0 advantage.
Idaho State won every set in the singles competition to sweep the Thunderbirds. At No. 4,
Josh Goodwin defeated Story 6-0, 6-0 to give ISU a 2-0 lead. At No. 2, Stempien defeated Blair 6-0, 6-1 to give Idaho State a 3-0.
With one win left to clinch the victory, Loebel defeated Dial 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
Swiggart defeated Benson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1.
Bjorn Scheepbouwer defeated Branden Olcott 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and at No. 6,
Cody Miller defeated John Mitchell 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the sweep.
Idaho State is now 4-11 overall and 2-6 in Big Sky play. The Bengals next play at Weber State, Wednesday, April 16.
