Bengal Softball Signs Ashlyn Ames

Ashlyn Ames

POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State softball coach Julie Wright has announced the signing of Ashlyn Ames to a National Letter of Intent. Ames is from Las Vegas, Nev., and she prepped at Arbor View High School.

"I am very excited to add Ashlyn to our 2014 class," Wright said. "She is a good athlete who can not only pitch, but can hit and play defense.  She is a fierce competitor and that will serve her well at this level.  I cannot wait to see this kid in action.  I fully expect her to have a great career here at ISU."

Ames, who competes on the So Cal Jets travel team, earned second-team all-conference her first three years of high school. As a freshman and sophomore she was voted the Offensive Player of the Year. As a junior she won the Tiffany Anderson Award for the most inspirational player. Ames batted over .500 for three years with a slugging percentage of .844. She has a combined era of 2.06 for her first three-years of high school.

As a freshman she was 8-3 in 74 innings pitched with 80 strikeouts and a 2.04 ERA. As a sophomore she finished 7-2 in 78 innings. She had 73 strikeouts and a 1.79 ERA. Despite missing half of her junior season with an injury, she still finished with a 6-3 mark in 60 innings. That year she had a 2.68 ERA and 64 strikeouts.

Ames is in the middle of her senior season where she has a 1.68 ERA in 64 innings.
