Bengals Pummel Weber 20-4

OGDEN, Utah – Idaho state tallied 17 hits and four home runs in a 20-4 road victory over Weber State Saturday.
 
Vicky Galasso, Terah Blackwell, Hailey Breakwell and Maddy Hickman each tallied home runs and Breakwell and Hickman had four RBIs each in the win.
 
Haley Douglas allowed eight hits and four runs in three innings to earn the win. She is now 13-9 on the season.
 
Jessica Tolmie was perfect in two innings of relief. She allowed no hits and no walks with one strikeout.
 
"It's difficult to put into words what this win was like," Head Coach Julie Wright said. "We played really well as a team. We didn't give a single moment away and that is what most impressed me. The key will be to carry this forward."
 
Galasso started the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to left field to give ISU a 1-0 lead.
 
A rain delay in the middle of the first held up the game for 30 minutes. After the delay ended Weber tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
 
Hickman homered to left center in the top of the second, scoring Katee Wiley to give the Bengals a 3-1 advantage.
 
The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run.
 
Idaho State began to pull away with four runs in the third inning. Marquez reached on an error which scored Burnett. Breakwell singled to left field three batters later to score Marquez. Blackwell scored on a Micheala Taylor single two batters later. Breakwell scored on a sacrifice fly by Hickman on the next at-bat.
 
After a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the third ISU exploded for 11 runs in the fourth including a two-run homer by Blackwell and a three-run jack by Breakwell. The 11 runs gave Idaho State an 18-3 lead.
 
WSU hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 18-4.
 
Jennie Murillo hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth to give the Bengals a 20-4 lead. Tolmie then sat the Wildcats down in order to end the game.
 
Wiley was three-for-three Saturday to cap a strong weekend. The senior was six-for-10 with three doubles and three RBIs in the series. She also had six putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
 
The win was only third time in Idaho State history that the Bengals scored 20 runs or more. The last time it happened was on March 28, 1978 when the Bengals defeated Utah Tech 32-7.
 
Idaho State is now 21-15 on the season and 4-2 in Big Sky Conference play.
 
The Bengals play their first home game against Utah State Tuesday, April 8, at 4 p.m.  ISU has faced USU twice this season winning 10-7 on Feb. 6, and 9-4 on March 7.
