ISU Falls to No. 7 Louisiana Lafayette 6-0

POCATELLO, Idaho-
The Idaho State softball team closed out play at the Mardi Gras Classic hosted by No. 7 Louisiana Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. The Bengals once again batted No. 7 Louisiana Lafayette tough but was held to one hit in a 6-0 loss.

ULL scored its six runs on nine hits while Maddy Hickman had the only hit of the game for ISU.  Bailey Foster took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing five hits, three runs and striking out two. Ashlyn Ames pitched 2.1 innings and allowed only two hits, one run, two walks and struck out one. Sophie Slagle tossed the final 2.1 innings and allowed only two hits, two runs and struck out two.

Louisiana Lafayette pitcher Jordan Wallace struck out nine Bengal batters, walked four and allowed only one hit. Wallace was named the tournament MVP as she struck out 30 batters in 16 innings of work for the weekend.

"We competed again today but we ran into a very good pitcher," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "Bailey, Ashlyn and Sophie did well and executed our game plan nicely. I also thought Hailey Breakwell played well defensively."

ULL led 3-0 after three innings and added a run in the fifth and two in the seventh inning.

The Bengals finished the weekend 2-3 and battled the No. 7 team in the country tough all weekend. The two wins came against Mississippi Valley.

"All in all our team stayed in the fight and I am proud of their efforts," Wright said. "We had a great second weekend and I look forward to playing again."

Slagle, Kacie Burnett and Vicky Galasso were named to the all-tournament team.

Idaho State plays at a tournament hosted by Santa Clara February 20-22. ISU plays San Jose State Feb. 20, Seattle Feb. 21, Illinois Chicago and Santa Clara on Feb. 22.

Notes: Kacie Burnett has reached base in 39 straight games dating back to last season. She walked in the sixth inning of today's game.
