Burnett's Streak Reaches 40 as Bengals Fall to Spartans

SANTA CLARA, California – Outfielder Kacie Burnett extended her streak to 40 consecutive games reaching base safely as the Idaho State softball team fell 8-1 to San Jose State in the opening game of the Santa Clara Tournament.

Burnett's RBI single in the third inning scored Katelyn Marquez for the Bengals only run of the game.

ISU finished with just four hits. Sarah Hayes, Hailey Breakwell and pinch hitter Gabby Lopez recorded the other three.

"Playing to win and competing on every pitch is one of the most important things you can do at this level. We didn't do that today," Head Coach Julie Wright said.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage after two innings.  They scored a run in five of their six frames at the plate.

Sophie Slagle and Ashlyn Ames each tossed three innings in the circle.

ISU will play three more games in the tournament.  They take on Seattle University Saturday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. and then face Illinois Chicago (10 a.m.) and Santa Clara (12:15 p.m.) on Sunday. All game times are listed as Mountain Time.
