POCATELLO, Idaho-Â The Idaho State softball team dropped two games on Friday at Cal State Fullerton. The Bengals lost 8-6 to San Diego State and 3-1 to Cal State Fullerton. ISU is now 0-3 and Fullerton improved to 2-0.
ISU was held to 10 hits in the two games.
Kacie Burnett was four-for-six with three runs scored and an RBI to lead the ISU offense.
Micheala Taylor was three-for-seven with a double and a run scored.
Vicky Galasso hit a three-run home run in the loss to San Diego State.
Sophie Slagle took the loss against Fullerton, going the distance of six innings, allowing five hits and three runs.
Ashlyn Ames took the loss against San Diego State.
"Today was not our best performance," Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. "We made way too many mental mistakes to win a softball game. The good thing is we get to play again tomorrow."
San Diego State 8 Idaho State 6Idaho State scored its six runs on five hits while the Aztecs had 12 hits and committed three errors in the field.
Burnett was two-for-three with two runs and one RBI. Â Galasso was one-for-three with three RBIs and a home run.
Jessica Tolmie took the loss as she gave up four runs on two hits in the first inning. Ames pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits, four runs, three walks and one strikeout.
ISU put two runs on the board in the first inning but SDSU countered with five in the bottom half of the inning. The Bengals trailed 7-3 after two innings. In the fifth inning, ISU cut the Aztec lead to 7-6 when Galasso homered to right-center.
San Diego State added a run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 8-6.
Cal State Fullerton 3 Idaho State 1In what was a pitchers dual for the majority of the game, Cal State Fullerton managed three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Bengals then had the go-ahead run at the plate in the top of the seventh but managed only one run in the inning, a sacrifice fly by
Maddy Hickman.
ISU had two hits going into the third inning but was held hitless until the seventh inning, when the team had three in the inning.
Idaho State concludes the Southern California Tournament with a 12:30 p.m. game vs. Utah and a 3 p.m. contest vs. Long Beach State. Both games will be played at Long Beach State.
