Bengals Take Down Nebraska Omaha, 7-3

Ashlyn Ames earned the complete game victory.

 
POCATELLO, Idaho-
The Idaho State softball team opened day one of the Jayhawk Invitational beating Nebraska Omaha 7-3 on Friday evening in Lawrence, Kansas. The Bengals improved to 12-11 while Nebraska Omaha fell to 9-11.

Idaho State scored its seven runs in the first three innings and freshman Ashlyn Ames improved to 3-3 in the circle with the complete game win. Ames allowed only four hits, while walking two and striking out two.

ISU had 11 hits, led by two from Vicky Galasso, Hailey Breakwell, Micheala Taylor and Dara Kolar.

"We got a great outing from Ashlyn and our offense attacked the ball from the first pitch on," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "I was really pleased with our energy and the way we approached the game today. It was a great win over a good team."

Idaho State led 2-0 after the first inning. Kacie Burnett led off with a walk and would score when Katelyn Marquez doubled to right-center. Marquez later scored on an RBI single from Breakwell.

Kolar led off the second inning with a double to center field and she later scored on an Omaha fielding error.

The Bengals four run third inning started with a double down the left field line by Galasso. Breakwell followed with another double to put runners at second and third. Galasso would end up scoring on a wild pitch and Breakwell scored a batter latter on an RBI double from Taylor.

The final two runs of the inning came on a two-run homer by Kolar that went well over the scoreboard in left-center.

Ames held Nebraska Omaha hitless for the first three innings. Nebraska Omaha as able to score two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.

The Bengals play UMKC on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Kansas at 1 p.m.
