POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team rallied to a 7-6 victory over UMKC in the first of two games on Saturday afternoon at the University of Kansas. In the Bengals second game of the day, No. 23 Kansas upended ISU, 10-2 in five innings. Idaho State is 13-12 on the season.
ISU had 12 hits on the day, led by three from
Kacie Burnett.
Gabby Lopez had two, a grand slam and four RBIs.
Hailey Breakwell had two hits, one being a home run and
Vicky Galasso finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Ashlyn Ames earned the win against UMKC, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, eight runs, one walk while striking out two.
Sophie Slagle took the loss against Kansas, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing seven hits, three runs and two walks.
Bailey Foster pitched three innings in the two games and allowed six hits.
Idaho State 7 UMKC 6The Bengals fell behind 5-0 after three innings. ISU got on the scoreboard with a three-run fourth inning. The scoring started with an infield single by Galasso and then a home run to left-center by Breakwell.

Amanda Ellsworth, who was pinch running for Kolar.
The Bengals four run sixth inning started with Breakwell reaching base when she was hit by a pitch. A batter later with one out, Taylor singled to left-center. Then with two outs,
Sarah Hayes walked to load the bases, setting up Lopez's grand slam to right field.
UMKC threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh as they had the bases loaded but Slagle came in to earn the save by getting the last out.
ISU had nine hits and committed no errors in the field. Breakwell was the only ISU player with two hits. Six other Bengals had one hit.
Kansas 10 Idaho State 2 (5 innings)After two scoreless innings, Kansas scored three runs in the third and seven in the fourth inning to jump out to a 10-0 lead. ISU had four hits in the game, with Burnett leading the way with two.
ISU scored its two runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Galasso. Burnett, doubled to left-center and Hayes, who reached base on an error scored on the play. Kansas improved to 23-2 on the season.
Idaho State concludes play at the University of Kansas with an 8:30 a.m. (MDT) game vs. Saint Louis.
