POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team beat Nevada 7-2 and 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Reno, Nevada. The Bengals improved to 11-10 and the final game of the three-game series is Sunday at 1 p.m. (MDT).
Idaho State pounded out 21 hits in the two games.
Kacie Burnett led the charge by going six-for-eight with a triple and four runs.
Vicky Galasso was four-for-eight with a home run, seven RBIs and three runs scored.
Gabby Lopez,
Hailey Breakwell and
Micheala Taylor all had three hits while
Katelyn Marquez had two.
Sophie Slagle earned the victory in the 4-1 win by tossing a complete game while scattering eight hits. Slagle struck out three and walked two.
Bailey Foster picked up the victory in the 7-2 win. She allowed only four hits and struck out four while walking three.
"We played two very complete games today," Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. "Both Sophie and Bailey did their jobs and the offense put together some really great innings. I was really proud of our effort on all sides of the ball."
Idaho State 4 Nevada 1The Bengals led 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Galasso. The hit scored Burnett, who reached base on an error by Nevada.
Nevada tied the game at one in the third but the Bengals put three runs on the board in the top of the seventh to take the 4-1 lead. With two outs, Burnett tripled to left-center and Marquez followed with a double to left-center to put ISU back on top 2-1. Galasso then had an RBI single that scored Marquez and Breakwell followed with RBI double to give ISU the 4-1 lead.
Burnett was three-for-four and scored two runs. Galasso and Breakwell all had two hits.
Idaho State 7 Nevada 2Nevada scored two runs in the first inning but the Bengals rallied with four in the top of the third and three in the fourth to take the 7-2 lead. With one-out, Galasso had a two-RBI single to tie the game at two and she later scored on a throwing error by Nevada. Taylor put ISU on top 4-2 with an RBI single.
Galasso connected on a three-run home run to right field in the fourth inning to give the Bengals the 7-2 lead.
Burnett was three-for-four while Galasso, Taylor and Lopez each had two hits. ISU had 11 hits in the win.
