Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho – For over a decade the Idaho State women's basketball team and the Big Sky post-season tournament have been synonymous with each other. ,That is the case once again as the Bengals qualified for the 12th consecutive season despite falling 77-53 to the University of Idaho Saturday afternoon.
The Bengals will enter the post-season tournament as the eighth seed and take on the host school and number one seed University of Montana., The Grizzlies (14-4) finished the regular season with the top record in the conference despite losing their final game to rival Montana State.
"We are happy that we did enough to make the conference tournament," Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. "Montana is going to be a tough first round game but we look forward to playing in a great post-season atmosphere."
The matchup will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday March 12 at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. If the UM men also host the Big Sky tournament then the first round of the women's tournament will begin on Wednesday.
The Griz defeated the Bengals in both meetings this season., Montana won 77-65 in Missoula and 69-51 in Pocatello.
Apiphany Woods (16 points) was the only player to score in double-figures Saturday in the loss to the University of Idaho., The Bengals shot just 26.5% in the first half and trailed by 15 at halftime.,
"Our problem was simple, we didn't finish open shots," Sobolewski said. "We got good low post touches, open perimeter shots but we just missed."
The advantage swelled further in the second half as Stacey Barr, the Big Sky's leader in scoring poured in 27 points to lead the Vandals to the senior day victory.,
Megan Hochstein added eight points and eight rebounds as ISU tied their second lowest scoring output in a conference game this season.
