W. Tennis Closes Season in Montana

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team closed out the season with a pair of hard fought defeats to Montana State (5-2) and Montana (6-1).

The Bengals finished the season with a 3-14 record but were constantly competitive in many of their matches.

"They worked so hard and improved in many areas this season," Assistant Coach Gretchen Maloney said. "They are becoming smarter players and adding tools to their games."

The Bengals picked up the doubles point against the Bobcats as Svenja Tegtmeier and Laura Theus combined for the victory (6-4) at the No. 2 slot while Taylor Cole and Laura Gutierrez snatched the win (7-5) at No. 3.

Madelyn Weltzin fought back from a set down for ISU's only singles point against MSU.  She dropped the opening set 3-6 but battled back to win set two in a tie breaker 7-6 (10-8) and then finished off the match with a 6-3 win in set three.

In the match against the Griz, Laura Gutierrez was the lone player to defeat her opponent when she downed UM's Catherine Orfanos 6-4 and 7-5.

"We are really looking forward to next year," Maloney said. "Our doubles improved the most this season and the girls really loved being a team."
