2015 Softball Seasons Ends in Big Sky Tournament

POCATELLO, Idaho-   The Idaho State softball team brought great memories to the Pocatello community during the 2015 season. After winning the program's third straight regular season championship, the Bengals once again hosted the conference tournament at Miller Ranch Stadium.

Unfortunately the final results on Friday didn't go in favor of ISU as the Bengals lost 9-1 in five innings to Weber State and 10-6 to Sacramento State later in the afternoon. The loss ends ISU's season with a 34-18 record.

"We didn't pitch as well as the teams we faced," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "We didn't hit as well as the team we faced and I didn't coach them as well."

The Sacramento State game was delayed two hours with two weather delays. Each time the Bengals had runners on base and rallying to get back in the game.

"We stopped our own momentum," Wright said. "We just didn't play our best ball. It wasn't weather. It wasn't anything but us."

In the first game of the day, Weber State scored two runs in the second inning and seven in the third. Idaho State's only run of the game was a homer by Ashlyn Ames in the second inning.

ISU was held to three hits while the Wildcats finished with 11.

In the Bengals second game of the day, Sacramento State scored five runs in the top of the first inning and ISU rallied with five in the bottom half of the inning. The Hornets scored three runs in the top of the second inning and Vicky Galasso homered to start the bottom of the second inning. Following Galasso's homer, the second weather delay lasted an hour and a half.

Sacramento State would score a run in the fifth and seventh inning to extend its lead. ISU had nine hits in the game and Sacramento State finished with 15.

"The season was a good season but it is hard to look back when you don't go anywhere," Wright said.

The losses on Friday end the remarkable careers of Galasso, Hailey Breakwell and Gabby Lopez. The three seniors were coach Wright's first recruiting class.

"They are a great bunch kids," Wright said. "They have had great careers and can walk away from this knowing that they were incredible.
