Box Score PDFPOCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengals dropped a 2-3 decision to visiting Eastern Washington Sunday afternoon at Davis Field in heartbreaking fashion as the Eagles scored the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining.
With the score tied at two apiece, EWU's Chloe Williams netted the game-winner off a one-on-one pursuit in the 86th minute.
"In this conference, every game is decided by one goal," Head Coach
Allison Gibson said. "From first place to last place. That's the difference."
Idaho State fought to come from behind and tie the match on two separate occasions; once off a made penalty kick from sophomore
Maria Sanchez in the 31st minute and again in the 65th minute when Sanchez crossed a ball to senior midfielder
Lauren Bermudez who chipped the ball past EWU's goalkeeper Mallory Taylor.
The Eagles pressured the Bengals, recording 18 shots to ISU's 14, including 10-6 shots on goal. ISU senior goalkeeper
Sheridan Hapsic recorded seven saves on the day.
"We're fixing things that we haven't been able to do in the past," Gibson said. "That's crashing the box and giving whatever it takes to finish. I think we showed a little bit of that today in the resilience of coming back once we went down a couple times to come back to even both times."
The Bengals head out on the road for a three-game road swing featuring Northern Colorado Oct. 2, North Dakota Oct. 4 and Portland State Oct. 9. ISU will return to Davis Field Oct. 11 against Sacramento State.
