Live StatsPOCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team host Portland State Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. Both the Bengals and the Vikings are in search of their first conference win.
SCOUTING PORTLAND STATEPortland State is an up-tempo, fast-break team that currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring at 68.7 per game. However, the Vikings are dead last in scoring defense, giving up 90.4 points per contest. PSU is a relatively young team with only four upperclassmen listed on the roster.
Picked to finish last in the conference by both the media and coaches, the Vikings are 2-13 overall this season with an 0-4 conference record. Portland State averages 68.7 points per game and 44.1 rebounds per game while shooting 34.1 percent from the field. PSU is led by freshman guard Michaela Kay who averages 9.9 points per contest, while sophomore guard Cici West leads the squad in rebounding with 8.7 per game.
The Vikings are coached by Head Coach Lynn Kennedy who is in his first year at the helm of the program.
SERIES REVIEWIdaho State leads the series against Portland State 29-20, and the Bengals have won the last eight meetings by an average of 11.25 points per game. Last year, ISU defeated PSU 65-53 after overcoming an 11-point first-half deficit and finished with four players in double-figures, led by
Anna Policicchio's 18 points.
NOTES- Currently, the Bengals rank first in the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 55.5 points per game. On Jan. 14, the Bengals limited the league's leading scoring offense in Sacramento State to 68 points, their lowest point total this season and 22.5 points below their conference scoring average of 90.5. On the flip side, ISU also ranks last in scoring offense in conference play at 48.5 points per game.
- The Bengals also claim the top spot in field goal percentage defense, forcing their conference opponents to shoot an average of 34.1 percent from the field.
- Idaho State currently ranks fourth in rebounding margin during conference play, outrebounding its opponents by an average of 3.5 per game.
