Women's Basketball Hits the Road for Utah State

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team continues play on the road as it heads to Logan, Utah to face the Aggies of Utah State Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. This is the third of five-straight road games for the Bengals as they continue on to play at No. 21 Colorado Dec. 3 and at Wisconsin Dec. 6.

BENGALS PREVIEW

Through five games this season, Idaho State is averaging 60.8 points per game shooting 35 percent from the field. The Bengals average 41.4 rebounds per game, nearly seven more per game than their opponents, and have outrebounded four-of-five opponents already this season.

Currently, Idaho State ranks second in the Big Sky in 3-point field goal percentage (34.8 percent), rebounding defense (34.6) and rebounding margin (+6.8).

Freshman guard Estefania Ors leads ISU in scoring at 14.6 points per game shooting 58.7 percent from the floor. Ors ranks seventh in the conference in points per game and is the top freshman scorer so far this year.

SCOUTING UTAH STATE

The Aggies return two starters and eight letter winners from last year's team that finished 14-17 overall with an 8-10 mark in Mountain West play, good for seventh. Utah State advanced to the second round of the Mountain West tournament before losing to Fresno State 55-47.

Utah State lost leading scorer Funda Nakkasoglu at 20.8 points per game following the 2015-16 season; Nakkasoglu transferred to Florida.

Through six games this season, the Aggies are 5-1 with a 2-1 record against Big Sky schools. Utah State's lone loss came against Southern Utah on Nov. 22 as the Thunderbirds cruised to a 70-54 win. So far this season, USU is averaging 66.7 points per game and 42.5 rebounds while shooting 40.5 percent from the field. Sophomore guard Rachel Brewster leads the scoring effort with 13.2 points per game shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Freshman forward Shannon Dufficy leads the Aggies in rebounding at 9.8 per contest to go along with 8.6 points per game.

The Aggies are led by Head Coach Jerry Finkbeiner who is in his fifth year with the program.
