Women's Basketball Hosts Montana Tech Friday

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team faces the Montana Tech Orediggers out of the NAIA Frontier Conference Friday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. The game is part of a double-header with the Idaho State men's basketball team; the men face Montana Tech at 6:05 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym.

SCOUTING MONTANA TECH

The Orediggers, who were picked to finish sixth in the Frontier Conference, are 7-6 on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play. Montana Tech has played three opponents ranked nationally among all NAIA programs in its last four games, and upset No. 18 Great Falls 75-68 in its last game on Dec. 3.

Montana Tech currently averages 78.9 points and 38.8 rebounds per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor. Three players average in double figures for the Orediggers, led by senior guard Martha Dembek at 16.4 points per game.  Five players average at least 4.5 rebounds per game, led by Dembek at 5.7 per contest.

The Orediggers rank second in the Frontier Conference in points per game, but rank last in scoring defense at 63.08 points per game.

Montana Tech is led by Head Coach Carly Sanon who is in her third year at the helm of the program.

SERIES REVIEW

Idaho State carries an undefeated 9-0 record against the Orediggers and won the last meeting 82-55 on Dec. 18, 2015 in Pocatello. This will be the first time in the series that the two squads have met each other in back-to-back consecutive seasons.

BENGAL BITES: REBOUNDING DOMINANCE

Idaho State continues to be dominant on the glass. With their 49-39 rebounding edge against Denver on Dec. 11, the Bengals have now outrebounded eight of their first nine opponents. As a team, ISU has grabbed at least 40 boards in seven of nine contests, and the Bengals have out-rebounded their opponent eight times this season. Five players average at least four rebounds per contest, while four average five or more. Sophomore guard Grace Kenyon leads the rebounding effort at 7.3 per game and grabbed a career-high 14 against Denver.
