POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball hosts Utah Valley Tuesday, Dec. 20 in its final nonconference matchup. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. Against the Wolverines Idaho State looks to defend its undefeated home record and extend its win streak to four.
SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines return six letter winners and two starters from last season's squad that finished with a 16-15 overall record with an 8-6 mark in WAC conference play, good for third.
So far this season, Utah Valley is 3-9 with wins against Pepperdine, at Southern Utah and against Denver. The Wolverines are averaging 59.7 points and 32.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.9 percent from the floor. Among the WAC conference, UVU ranks last in rebounding defense, turnover margin and defensive rebounds which cater to Idaho State's rebounding success and defensive pressure.
Three Wolverines average double figures for UVU, led by Mariah Seals at 14.1 points per game, good for fifth in the WAC. Three players average at least four rebounds per contest, led by Sam Lubcke at 6.8 per game, good for eighth in the WAC.
Currently, Utah Valley is battling injuries and as five players unavailable for Tuesday's game.
Utah Valley is led by Head Coach Cathy Nixon who is in her 22nd season at the helm of the program. Nixon carries a 349-298 overall record.
SERIES REVIEW
Idaho State leads the series 7-5, but share an even 5-5 record over the previous 10 matchups. Idaho State won the last meeting 56-47 on Dec. 29, 2015 in Orem, Utah
BENGAL BITES
- Sophomore guard Grace Kenyon has come up big for the Bengals in recent games. After posting a monster double-double with a career-high tying 20 points to go along with a career-high 14 boards in ISU's double-overtime win over Denver on Dec. 11, Kenyon was just three boards and two assists shy of a triple-double against Montana Tech. She finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and a career-high tying eight assists in the win. Currently, Kenyon ranks 21st in scoring and fifth in rebounding in the Big Sky.
- Idaho State carries a perfect 3-0 record at home so far this season with wins against UC Irvine, Denver and Montana Tech. In those three games, the Bengals have outscored their opponents 69.0 to 57.7 with a 43.0 to 33.3 advantage on the glass. ISU has shot 40.1 percent from the floor at home, as opposed to 32.8 percent on the road or at neutral site games.
- Against Montana Tech on Dec. 16, the Bengals posted season-highs in assists (19) and shooting percentage (50.8) while committing a season-low 12 turnovers.
