POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team continues conference play Saturday against defending regular-season champion Montana State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court in Reed Gym.
SCOUTING MONTANA STATE
The Bobcats were picked to finish third in conference play by the coaches and picked to repeat as Big Sky Regular Season Champions by the media. Currently, MSU carries an 8-3 overall record with a 1-0 mark in conference play. With the Bobcats' 83-68 win at Weber State on Dec. 29 they are on a seven-game winning streak including four on the road.
So far this season, Montana State averages 70.9 points per game to rank third in the conference while limiting its opponents to a league-best 59.3 points per game. The Bobcats also lead the conference in rebounding at 43.5 per game. Two players average double-figures for MSU led by 2016 BSC Top Reserve Peyton Ferris at 15.2 points followed by the 2016 BSC Newcomer of the Year Riley Nordgaard at 13.4. Blaire Braxton leads the rebounding effort with 7.2 per contest.
The Bobcats are led by Head Coach Tricia Binford who is in her 12th season with the program.
SERIES REVIEW
Montana State leads the all-time series 42-34, but the Bengals have won 20 of the last 28 games including eight of the last 10. In the last meeting, Idaho State upset No. 1 Montana State 52-50 in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament in Reno, Nev. on March 9, 2016. The Bengals scored as time expired to advance to the semifinals.
BENGAL BITES
- Idaho State is currently on a five-game win streak, the longest since stringing together five-straight wins from March 2 to March 11 last season.
- The Bengals opened Big Sky Conference play with a 61-43 win over Montana on Dec. 29 and improve to 12-1 in conference openers since the 2004-05 season.
- Through 12 games, ISU is averaging 60.2 points and 40.1 rebounds per game while shooting 36.6 percent from the field. Grace Kenyon leads the Bengals in scoring at 11.3 points and in rebounding at 7.3 per game.
