POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team returns home to face Denver Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court in Reed Gym. Sunday's game marks the first of five-straight home games for the Bengals that spans the month of December.
SCOUTING DENVER
Denver returns seven letter winners from last season's squad that finished 5-25 overall with a 3-13 record in conference play, good for eighth in the Summit League.
As of Dec. 8, the Pioneers were 3-6 so far on the season with wins against Air Force, Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine, all at home. Through Dec. 8, Denver averaged 63.1 points and 35.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor. Three players average double-figures for the Pioneers: Jacqlyn Poss at 12.8 per game, Sam Romanowski at 11.8 and Biana Johnson at 10.4. Jahla Osborne leads the rebounding effort at a 6.1 per game, while Jordyn Alt averages an even 6.0.
Through Dec. 8, Denver ranked seventh in the Summit League in scoring; Western Illinois led the conference at 82.0 points per contest. The Pioneers also ranked seventh in rebounding; Oral Roberts led the league at 42.8 boards per game.
Denver is led by Head Coach Kerry Cremeans who is in her fifth year at the helm of the program. Cremeans carries a 39-94 overall record with Denver.
SERIES REVIEW
This will be the seventh time in history that Idaho State has played Denver and the second time the Bengals have faced the Pioneers in Pocatello. ISU leads the series 4-2 and won the last meeting 95-61 on Dec. 5, 2003 in Pocatello.
BENGAL BITES
Through eight games, Idaho State is averaging 57.2 points and 40.9 rebounds per game while shooting 33.3 percent.
Power 5 Party: Idaho State's Dec. 6 win at Wisconsin marked the first time since Dec. 10, 2007 when Idaho State defeated Oregon State 79-73 in Corvallis, Ore. that the Bengals have defeated a Power 5 Conference program. That includes teams from the SEC, Pac 12, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC.
In 2011, Idaho State earned a win against South Florida with a 76-63 victory on Dec. 2, 2011. At that time, USF was part of the Big East which was considered a Power conference.
In the last six years, Big Sky women's basketball programs have played Power 5 conference programs a combined 92 times. In that time span, Big Sky Conference programs have won a combined six times including Idaho State's Dec. 6 win at Wisconsin.
Crashing the Glass: The Bengals have been crashing the glass hard to start the season. As a team, ISU has grabbed at least 40 boards in six of eight contests, and the Bengals have out-rebounded their opponent seven times this season. Five players average at least four rebounds per contest, while three average five or more.
