POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team rallied from an 11-2 deficit against Grand Canyon to take a 12-11 lead going into the seventh inning but GCU scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the 15-12 victory. In the second game of the day, ISU lost 9-1 to Loyola Marymount.
The Bengals were solid offensively both games, hitting .373 and pounding out 22 hits. Nine different Bengals had hits on the day.
Dara Kolar was 3-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.
Kacie Burnett was 5-8 with one RBI and three runs scored.
Alex Portesi was 3-6 with a double and one run scored.
Ashley Morris,
Maddy Hickman,
Micheala Taylor,
Katelyn Marquez and
Ashlyn Ames all had two hits.
Sophie Slagle and
Mariah Mulcahy took the losses.
Grand Canyon 15 Idaho State 12The Bengals fell behind 11-2 after two innings. Over the next four innings, ISU chipped away at the deficit scoring three runs in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Burnett was 3-5 with one RBI and two runs scored while Kolar was 3-4 with five RBIs. Slagle took the loss, pitching the final 4.2 innings and allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and striking out four. Three of Slagle's six hits allowed came in the bottom of the seventh inning when GCU rallied for the victory.
Idaho State scored its three runs in the third inning on a three-RBI double by Kolar. In the four run fourth inning, Kolar had a two-RBI double while Hickman and Ames had RBIs.
Hickman had an RBI double in the fifth inning and Burnett and
Sarah Hayes had the final two RBIs in the sixth inning to take the 12-11 lead.
Grand Canyon loaded the bases to start the seventh inning and would later tie the game on a wild pitch and win it on a walk off homer.
Loyola Marymount 9 Idaho State 1 (5)LMU scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back. Taylor singled home Burnett in the top of the fifth inning for the only run of the game. Burnett has now reached base in 37 straight games dating back to last year.
Mulcahy went the distance, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six hits and nine runs, eight being earned.
Idaho State concludes its tournament at Grand Canyon with a 9 a.m. contest on Sunday.
