POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team fell to visiting Sacramento State 6-1 Saturday morning at Reed Gym in its final tennis match of the 2016 season. The Bengals battled the co-Big Sky Regular Season champs, sending two singles matches to three sets.
The visitors swept doubles play, earning a 6-1 win at the No. 3 doubles position to start followed by a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles position. Seniors
Kasey Bacon and
Taylor Cole nearly pulled off the upset at the No. 2 doubles position, but fell to Diemante Bulatovaite and Alina Soltanici 7-5.
In singles play, Sacramento State (14-8, 10-1 BSC) swept the first five singles matches. Senior
Wiebke Boeckmann battled at the No. 3 singles position, forcing the first set to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6, then winning the second set 6-2 to even things up. But Bulatovaite came up bit in the final set, winnign 6-1 to take the match.
Idaho State's (5-14, 3-8 BSC) lone singles win came at the No. 5 position as Cole defeated Andie Mouzes in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.
