POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team swept the final day of the three-game series at Portland State, winning 11-1 in five innings and 6-0 in game 3. The 11-1 win was a continuation of the game that was stopped due to weather on Friday.
Kacie Burnett was 4-7 and
Alex Portesi was 4-8 with four RBIs on the day.
Katelyn Marquez had three hits and scored three runs.
Ashlyn Ames had four RBIs and scored two runs and
Maddy Hickman had three RBIs without recording a hit. She also scored three runs.
Sophie Slagle earned both wins, tossing 12 innings, scattering seven hits, striking out seven, walking three and allowing only one run.
"It was great to see the team bounce back with two decisive wins today," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "They knew how important these two wins were. Sophie pitched well and we got great run support as well as solid defense. We need to take these two wins as momentum into our last conference series against Northern Colorado.
In the 11-1 win, ISU scored its 11 runs on nine hits and took advantage of three Viking errors.
The Bengals scored three runs in the first inning. Ames had a sacrifice RBI and Portesi had a two-run RBI double down the left field line to start the scoring.
In the fourth inning, Marquez had an RBI triple and Hickman later drove in Marquez. The game was delayed after four innings and picked up Saturday morning in the top of the fifth inning with Idaho State at bat. Portesi started the inning with a single.
Dara Kolar and
Kaitlyn Spohrer followed with singles and Portesi would later score on a wild pitch.
Taylor followed with a two-RBI single and Hickman would walk with the bases loaded to drive in another run. Portesi drove in the final two runs on a single to left field.
Portesi was 3-4 with four RBI to lead the offense and Marquez was 2-4 with one RBI.
In the final game of the series Idaho State used a four-run first inning to cruise to the 6-0 victory. Burnett was 3-4 and
Sarah Hayes and Ames finished with two hits. Slagle struck out two, walked two and allowed only four hits in the victory. Slagle is now 11-8 on the season.
Idaho State closes out the regular season next week at Miller Ranch Stadium on May 6-7 against Northern Colorado. It will be the final home games for
Bailey Foster, Hickman, Taylor, Marquez and Slagle.
