Bengals Fall at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo.- The Idaho State football team lost 56-7 to Colorado of the Pac 12 Conference on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 39,505 at Folsom Field.

Idaho State was held to 96 total yards while Colorado finished with 597. ISU had 35 yards rushing and 61 passing yards. CU had 262 rushing yards and 335 passing.

Colorado led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and then scored 35 second quarter points to lead 49-0 at halftime. Colorado led 56-0 in the third quarter before the Bengals got on the scoreboard.

With five minutes left in the third quarter Christian Holland picked up a fumble and returned it 15 yards to the Buffalo 27 yard line. The Bengals then punched it in the end zone six plays later on a Jakori Ford three-yard run.

Josh Cook had five receptions for 28 yards. Cook set the ISU record for most receiving yards by a tight end. Tanner Gueller completed 18 passes on 35 attempts for 59 yards and one interception.

Joe Martin led the defense with nine tackles and Hayden Stout had eight.

Idaho State plays at Oregon State next Saturday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m. mountain time. The game will be broadcast on the Pac 12 Network.

Mike Kramer Post Game Quotes
"This is the way it has been at Idaho State for me since we have had to play these games. It is exactly right down the middle of it. You can't deny what it is. They are way better than we are and we didn't play well enough at quarterback to be able to stem the tide."

"It was a great play by Christian Holland to get the turnover and it was nice to see our offense keep playing hard to get it in. Congratulations to the Buffalos and Mike's guys did a great job."

"Their quarterback played great early and good for him. He was not slated to be the starter for a long time around here."

"We had no offense and no first downs. Their defense was good and played man coverage. Our receivers didn't get open and the quarterback didn't throw the ball against the corners. If you are not going to attack the corners in man coverage you are not going to win. It is the nature of the sport today. The quarterback gets all the credit and he gets all the blame, especially against man coverage."

"Where is the safety? Our safeties played awful. We thought we had improved safety play and we lost a pretty good feel for that today. We'll have to recover because we play a pretty good Pac 12 team next week."

"When your longest pass play goes only 11 yards you are not going to get first downs and we didn't get enough first downs. The defense got exhausted and we just fell apart. That is not the defenses fault as much as the offense and that starts with me. It is my responsibility to make sure the offense plays well and we did not play well."

"Colorado has improved. How good they are compared to the rest of the Pac 12, I guess we will get another taste of it next week."

Notes
- Josh Cook needed 12 receiving yards to pass Josh Hill and become the all-time leader for receiving yards by a tight end and he finished with 28 on five receptions. Cook now has 113 receptions for 1,287 receiving yards.

Since 2008, the FBS opponents Idaho State has faced are; Air Force, Nebraska, BYU, Washington State, Utah State, Georgia, UNLV, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Boise State, Washington, Utah and Idaho. ISU plays Colorado and Oregon State this year.
