POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting New Mexico State Sunday afternoon at Davis Field. Although Idaho State (3-5) outshot New Mexico (2-6) 30-15, the Aggies were more effective in the shots they took, registering nine shots on goal to the Bengals' eight.

"Today was not our day," Head Coach Allison Gibson said. "Unfortunately, we got too far away from our own game plan and gave up an early goal that put us on our heels early."

All three of New Mexico State's goals came from Aileen Galicia. The first goal came less than three minutes into the start of the game as Galicia received a pass from Valerie Maestas and knocked a shot from behind the 18 up over ISU goalkeeper Shawna Hennings.

NMSU's second goal came in the 18th minute as the Aggies' Rebecca Mazzie connected on the through ball to a slashing Galicia who connected for the goal. Idaho State held New Mexico State scoreless for the final 27 minutes and faced a 2-0 deficit heading into the break.

In the second half, Idaho State outshot New Mexico State 17-7, but the Bengals were unable to break through for the score. The Aggies' final goal came in the 51st minute following a miscommunication between Hennings and ISU's back line; Galicia intercepted a pass to score NMSU's third goal.

"We came out of the locker room at half with a solid game plan to get back on track, but New Mexico State's early goal in the second to give them their third goal was too much for us to overcome," Gibson said. "Overall, it was just an unfortunate game for us as we have been playing so well."

The Bengals return to Davis Field Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. against UC Irvine for their fourth-consecutive home game.
