Women's Basketball Continues Play on the Road at Eastern Washington

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball continues Big Sky play on the road this week beginning at Eastern Washington Jan. 12 in Cheney, Wash. This is the first time in two seasons the Bengals will make the trek up north; the last time ISU traveled to Cheney the Eagles bested the Bengals 62-58 on March 5, 2015.

SCOUTING EASTERN WASHINGTON

Eastern Washington is 7-7 so far on the season with a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Eagles have picked up conference wins against Idaho and at Montana with their single loss coming at Montana State on Jan. 5.

Currently EWU averages 68.4 points and 35.9 rebounds per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the floor. The Eagles rank second in the Big Sky in field goal percentage and top the charts in 3-point field goal percentage at 34.3 percent. Eastern Washington averages just under seven made treys per contest at 6.9.

Three players average in double figures for EWU, led by 2015-16 Big Sky Second Team selection and current Big Sky scoring leader Delaney Hodgins at 18.5 points per game.  Hodgins also leads the Eagles and ranks in the top 15 in the conference in rebounding at 6.3 per contest. Senior guard Tisha Phillips ranks second on the squad in scoring at 14.4 per game, while senior forward Ashli Payne adds an even 11.0 per contest.

Eastern Washington is led by Head Coach Wendy Schuller who is in her 16th season with the program.

BENGAL BITES
  • After a perfect 2-0 conference-opening weekend against Montana and Montana State, Idaho State's six-game win streak was snapped with a 50-43 loss at Weber State. The Bengals have struggled away from Pocatello this season with a 1-5 road record. Eastern carries a 3-1 home record with its lone loss against Gonzaga on Dec. 11.
  • ISU continues to top the charts in the conference in rebounding. The Bengals rank first in the Big Sky in both rebounding defense (35.0 per game) and offensive rebounding percentage (37.1 percent), and they rank in the top five in four other rebounding categories: offensive rebounds (2nd, 14.6 per game); rebounding margin (2nd, +6.5); defensive rebounding percentage (4th, 72.4 percent); and rebounding offense (5th, 41.5 rebounds per game).
  • Grace Kenyon continues to lead the Bengals in scoring at an even 12.0 points per game, rebounds at 7.6 per game and assists at 2.4 per game.

SERIES REVIEW
Eastern Washington leads the series 38-36, including a 23-12 advantage in Cheney. The last time the Bengals defeated EWU in Cheney was Feb. 25, 2012 with a 63-50 victory.  The squads have split the last 10 meetings, but Idaho State has won three of the last five.
