POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team continues play on the road this Saturday as it travels to Moscow, Idaho to take on the Vandals of Idaho at 3 p.m. on Jan. 14.
SCOUTING IDAHO
The Vandals are 7-8 on the season including a 2-2 mark in conference play. So far this season, Idaho is undefeated at home with a perfect 3-0 mark in the Cowan Spectrum.
The defending Big Sky tournament champions average 70.9 points per game (fifth in the Big Sky) and 35.9 rebounds per game which ranks last in the conference. The Vandals are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor for the season including 32.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Three players average in double figures for Idaho, led by sophomore guard Mikayla Ferenz at 16.9 points per game, good for fourth in the conference. Junior forward Geraldine Mccorkell averages 14.8 points and 5.1 boards per game while sophomore guard Taylor Pierce is good for 10.8 points per contest. Junior forward Brooke Reilly leads Idaho in rebounding at 5.9 per game while three Vandals average four or more boards per game.
Idaho is led by Head Coach Jon Newlee who is in his ninth season with the Vandals.
SERIES REVIEW
The Vandals lead the series 28-11 with a 17-1 advantage in Moscow. Idaho State has won three of the last five, dating back to 99-89 overtime win on Dec. 10, 2005, but Idaho won the last meeting 67-55 in the championship game of the Big Sky Conference tournament on March 12, 2016.
BENGAL BITES
- Idaho State continues to be a force on the glass. The Bengals have out-rebounded their opponents 14 times this season, and ISU has grabbed at least 40 rebounds in 10 games so far this season. Lindsay Brown has come on strong for ISU in the last two games as the junior forward has grabbed 10 rebounds in two straight contests.
- The Bengals lead the conference in scoring defense at 60.8 points per game, but they have struggled to produce offensively, ranking 11th of 12 teams in scoring offense at 58.2 points per contest.
- The road has not been friendly to the Bengals this season. ISU's lone road win came over a month ago on Dec. 6 with a 42-35 win over Power 5 foe Wisconsin. Currently, the Bengals are 1-6 on the road.
